During our medical mission to Somoto, Nicaragua, which took place from July 29th to August 8th, 2010, IMAHelps volunteers provided medical care to 8,446 patients. These included 1,465 people seen by general internists and 949 children seen by a pediatric specialist. Our volunteer surgeons performed 49 plastic and maxillo-facial surgeries; 49 orthopedic surgeries; 5 general surgeries; 3 urological surgeries and 18 gynecological surgeries. Our volunteers also performed 473 gynecological procedures and 112 prosthetic consultations, while fitting prosthetic limbs for 28 people. Our dental team treated 695 people, while our pharmacy provided prescriptions for 4,476 patients. And when we completed our mission, we left over $133,000 worth of equipment and medicines behind with local physicians so that they could further serve the needs of the local population.
